To provide technical support and advice to the CME Department.

• To contribute to IÉ Railway Rolling Stock Safety.

• To conduct investigations into failures of chemicals (including oils and lubricants) used on IÉ Railway Rolling Stock.

• To procure and direct as required, third party laboratories, test facilities, consultants or experts required to conduct analysis work for the CME Dept.

• To provide useful interpretation of test reports, consultants reports and chemical data sheets to allow the CME Dept. to make technical & business decisions.

• To provide technical and analysis reports to the CME Department.

• To provide material and product specifications for the RU Procurement Department.

• To approve all chemicals, oils, lubricants, and fuels used by the CME dept.

• To conduct basis in-house testing of materials, e.g., hardness testing, microscopy analysis.
